NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

This is a full time permanent post for 2 years and will be worked Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and occasional evening/weekend working may be required.

We are seeking a dynamic individual to join the Glasgow city’s Health Improvement Team as a Health Improvement Lead. The post-holder will be part of a multi-agency team (with Glasgow City Council, University of Glasgow and Strathclyde, GCPH, NHSGCC) working on the Health Determinants Research Council programme in Glasgow city. The HDRC programme is a 5 year programme, funded by the National Institute of Health Research until December 2029.

The HDRC’s aim is to achieve a cultural shift in the Council towards evidence-informed decision-making in all areas of policy and practice that may have an influence on health inequalities and outcomes Health determinants research collaborations | NIHR

A key element of the post will be working across public health partners to develop better connectivity and linkages with the HDRC programme. The post-holder will require excellent partnership, communication and influencing skills alongside the ability to understand complex systems and present them in a clear way.

The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to improving health, reducing inequalities and delivering better outcomes. Educated to degree level (preferably with a relevant post-graduate qualification), the post holder should have a track record of health improvement/public health experience, partnership working, operational management and a good understanding of public health priorities and health inequalities. The post holder is expected to fulfil the Standards for Public Health Practice (Health improvement) at an Advanced level.

This post will initially be hosted within the Northwest Health Improvement Team on behalf of the city, although this may change. The post holder will required to spend a portion of their working week based with the HDRC team in the city centre.
