We are looking to recruit a Band 2 Healthcare Assistant to contribute to the development and delivery of compassionate, high-quality care for children and young people.

An exciting opportunity is available for full or part-time Band 2 Healthcare Assistants on The Children’s Ward at Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children. Applicants must have inpatient care experience and evidence of personal development. Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills are essential; previous paediatric experience is required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Job summary

Working under supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Healthcare Assistant (HCA) will deliver high-quality nursing care to children and young people as part of a team. The HCA is responsible for their own practice within defined competence limits, with accountability retained by the RN.

Clinical Duties

  • Deliver clinical care within protocols, competencies, and scope.
  • Provide patient-centered, compassionate care under supervision.
  • Maintain effective communication with the supervising nurse, other disciplines, children, young people, and families.
  • Keep accurate, confidential nursing records, reporting to the RN.
  • Provide direct care within competence, assisting in discharge processes.
  • Ensure safe use and maintenance of medical devices.
  • Report serious incidents appropriately.
  • Develop understanding of governance and risk management.
  • Assist with clerical and housekeeping duties.

Qualifications
