Healthcare Assistants are a vital part of our MWL team, supporting nursing staff and patients across a wide range of specialties, wards, and departments across the Trust.

We have exciting opportunities available across both Whiston and St. Helens sites at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospital in the following areas:

You must be available to work all required shifts over 7 days, including earlies, lates, and nights due to service demands.

The post-holder will carry out assigned tasks involving direct care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

  • Support qualified Nursing Staff in maintaining high standards of nursing care.
  • Assist in creating a recovery-conducive environment within the ward that is pleasant for patients and families.
  • Accept responsibility for delegated functions deemed appropriate for untrained staff by the Nurse in Charge.
  • Ensure nursing documentation entries are correct, legible, comprehensive, and signed by a registered nurse.
  • Understand and adhere to all Trust Policies.
  • Ensure the health and safety of patients, relatives, and staff at all times.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Working as part of the Nursing Team, undertaking household support and direct care tasks as delegated.
  • Supporting high standards of nursing care and a positive environment.
  • Participating in annual performance reviews and ongoing training.

Other responsibilities involve:

  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and dignity.
  • Reporting incidents and ensuring professional conduct.
  • Presenting a positive image of the Trust and maintaining appropriate appearance and manners.
  • Attending mandatory training such as fire safety and lifting procedures.
