Health Care Assistant - St George Medical Centre
The post holder works under the indirect supervision of the practice nurse team leader and undertakes tasks delegated by the team leader or a suitably qualified regulated professional. They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet patients' needs, following policies and procedures, and can provide supervision to practice phlebotomists as required.

- Familiarize with personal security systems and identify risks in work activities.
- Follow infection control procedures, maintain clean work areas, and report hazards.
- Handle laboratory specimens, waste segregation, decontamination, and sharps safety.
- Assist with infection control measures, understand the cold chain, and manage vaccines and drugs safely.
- Know basic first aid and resuscitation principles, statutory child health procedures, and local guidance.
- Follow health and safety policies, fire procedures, and maintain equipment and documentation.
- Use computer systems safely and recognize microbiological and chemical hazards.
Service Improvement
- Assist in clinical audits, develop services, and respond to patient and staff requests for health information.
- Alert team members to quality and risk issues, and ensure actions align with clinical governance.
- Support patient access to professionals, manage stock items, and understand the impact of clinical governance.
- Follow practice policies, including whistle-blowing, and manage time effectively.
Clinical Skills, Health, and Well-being
- Perform tasks like urinalysis, physiological measurements, venepuncture, ECG, and health promotion activities.
- Act as a chaperone, prepare environments, and support health and well-being awareness.
- Record information accurately, maintain confidentiality, and support patient rights and diversity.
