Location: Southport & Ormskirk Hospital
Address: Town Lane Kew, Town Southport, Postcode: PR8 6PN
Contract type: Permanent - Must be able to work a rotational 7-day shift pattern of both day & night shifts.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Successful candidates must be available to work all required shifts over 7 days including earlies, lates, and nights.)

Salary
Salary: £23,615 per annum (pro rata if part-time)
Salary period: Yearly
Grade: NHS AfC: Band 2

Job Overview

Healthcare Assistants are a vital part of our MWL team, supporting nursing staff and patients across a wide range of specialties, wards, and departments across the Trust. We have exciting opportunities available across both Southport and Ormskirk sites at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospital.

Responsibilities

  1. The post-holder will carry out assigned tasks involving direct care in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse.
  2. Support the qualified Nursing Staff in maintaining high standards of nursing care to patients.
  3. Assist in providing an environment within the ward that is conducive to patient recovery and pleasant for patients and their families.
  4. Accept responsibility for specifically delegated functions within the ward which the Nurse in Charge feels are appropriate for untrained staff to undertake.
  5. Ensure that entries made in nursing documentation are correct, legible, and comprehensive and countersigned by a registered nurse.
  6. Understand and adhere to all Trust Policies.
  7. Ensure the Health and Safety of patients, relatives, and other staff is considered at all times.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills

Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 2 in Health Care Support, or equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience
  • Care Certificate, or willing to work towards upon appointment

Knowledge & Experience

  • Knowledge of personal care and related procedures
  • Experience of working in a team

Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a patient care/health related role

  • Occasional exposure to patients with challenging behaviours.
