As a Health Care Assistant with Turning Point Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland Substance use Service, you will make a real difference to people’s lives by supporting the development of personal, flexible, and realistic support and care packages to help them turn things around. The role offers scope and support for your personal and professional development within a friendly, multidisciplinary team. We welcome applications from experienced Healthcare Assistants passionate about improving health and wellbeing and eager to develop their skills, knowledge, and experience in substance use. A tailored induction and training package, depending on your experience, will be provided.

We offer a starting salary of £24,150, increasing annually in line with our pay progression bands, up to £28,252 per year. (Depending on experience, you may be offered a starting salary above the initial figure).

Role Responsibilities

As a Health Care Assistant, you will assist in providing comprehensive, high-quality, and efficient Substance Use Services. Responsibilities include supporting staff in delivering pharmacological and psychosocial interventions, including:

• Participating in triage assessments and screenings, urine analysis, health assessments, physical observations, blood-borne virus screening, ECG recording, and venipuncture with appropriate training.
• Making accurate entries in patients' electronic medical records.
• Performing administrative tasks such as clinical audit data collection, scheduling appointments, and engaging with patients for treatment adherence.
• Supporting stock management, monitoring fridge temperatures and logs, recording in Controlled Drugs registers, maintaining equipment and dispensing areas, and ensuring cleanliness.
• Supporting opiate and alcohol detoxifications, including physical detox observations and reporting concerns.
• Assisting in nurse-led clinics, needle exchange, harm reduction services, and safe storage of medicines.
• Reporting critical incidents via DATIX and participating in rotas, including late, weekend, and holiday shifts.

• Experience working effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to adapt messages for different audiences and convey clinical information effectively.
• Commitment to improving service quality and understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding procedures.
• Knowledge of legislation related to medicines use.
• Ability to use medical equipment to gather observations and communicate findings to clinical staff.
• Must hold a full driving license and be able to travel across multiple locations.
