The Jefferiss Wing at St Mary’s Hospital is on the lookout for a proactive, empathetic, and non-judgmental Healthcare Assistant to join our forward-thinking nursing team within the Integrated Sexual Health Service.

What You’ll Do:
• Support clinics with sample collection and processing, phlebotomy, microscopy, and chaperoning procedures
• Support our expert clinicians in specialist clinics like IUT (Intrauterine Contraception)
• Make a real difference in people’s lives every day

What We Are Looking For:
• Excellent communicator (written & spoken)
• Confident using your initiative in a clinical setting
• Experience in phlebotomy or sexual health screening? Great! If not, we’ll train you.
• Above all – empathetic, inclusive, and passionate about patient care

Main duties of the job

  • To work across both clinics in Jefferiss Wing – The Sexual Health clinic and The HIV Outpatient Department (The Wharfside Clinic).
  • To carry out care and treatment tasks, delegated from professionally qualified staff, requiring a range of technical ability.
  • Ensure the clinic environment is safe and clean.
  • Fulfil any clerical duties.
  • To supervise less experienced Nursing Assistants.
  • To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide support for any area specified by the coordinating nurse on duty.

Education / Qualifications

  • QCF Level 3 in Health or equivalent (NVQ3, Advanced Apprenticeship) Numerate
  • Able to speak and write English to an appropriate standard to fulfil the job requirements.

Experience

  • Demonstrate a clear insight into the role.
  • Up to date experience - worked within an acute care setting within the last 18 months
  • Willing to learn venepuncture and other relevant skills
