A busy general practice in South Shields is seeking a Health Care Assistant to support the nursing team in delivering high-quality patient care. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing clinical observations, managing health checks, and assisting with various patient services. This role is ideal for someone experienced in healthcare who is looking to join a friendly and dedicated team.
To support the practice nursing team in the delivery ofnursing services , working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team,delivering care within their scope of the practice to our patient population. OurHCA will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment,preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

Imeary Medical Group is a busy, growing general practice inSouth Shields with approx. 4,400 patients. We have 2 GPs, 2 NursePractitioners, a Practice Nurse, 2 GP Assistants and 1 Health Care Assistant(current vacant post). Our team also consists of a midwife, mental healthpractitioner, physio, podiatrist, pharmacist, pharmacy technician, trans-healthcare coordinator & social prescribers, who are based at our practice atvarious times across the week. All of these clinicians are supported by ourmanagement & admin teams who are essential in ensuring the smooth &successful running of the practice. We are based in a shared purpose-built healthcentre just a 2 minute walk from Chichester Metro station & on central busroutes. There is free parking in a private staff car park and free patient& visitor parking on site
Job responsibilities
Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, and record findings accurately in EMIS
Carry out 'first part' annual reviews for chronic diseases e.g hypertension, diabetes, CVD etc
Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring
Carry out ECGs (training will be provided)
Carry out BMI checks and provide weight management advice and referrals
Carry out Spirometry tests (training will be provided)
Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture
Intramuscular injections under PSD
Undertake wound care following a management plan and carry out simple dressings
Removal of stitches, staple & sutures
Undertake NHS Health Checks
Processing of samples e.g. urine following our pathway
Check vaccine refrigerators daily and record temperature (vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording)
Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
Medical equipment and vaccine ordering, stocking control and rotation
Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment
Act as a chaperone as required
Participating in administrative tasks to support the practice in meeting QOF targets
Urinalysis and specimen processing
Blood pressure Recording
B12, Flu, pneumococcal, shingles and vaccinations
Pre- diabetes and diet/lifestyle advice
Defibrillator, first aid and emergency equipment checks
Manage the gestational & pre diabetes recall system
Any other duties required to support the practice within this role.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience working within a General Practice setting. The post holder will have clinical system experience and knowledge of entering patient information onto the system
