Overview

We have a great opportunity for a dedicated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our children\'s team in CDC nursing. You will work with friendly and experienced staff committed to delivering a high standard of care to babies, children, young people (BCYP) and their families in Barking & Dagenham. You will support children attending the Child & Family Centre for various appointments and work across the medical teams to assist BCYP with diverse needs.

You will be caring and compassionate, possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and be adaptable to the needs of BCYP with additional needs that attend the centre.

Responsibilities
  • Be the first point of contact for appointments and provide essential information to parents, carers and BCYP.
  • Adapt communication and interpersonal approaches to suit children and families.
  • Assist with essential measurements for appointments, including weight, height, head circumference and blood pressure where appropriate.
  • Be trained to complete ECG recordings as needed.
  • Support children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) across the Child & Family Centre in collaboration with medical teams and CDC nursing.
  • Highlight concerns from a service and safeguarding perspective and contribute to continuous service improvement.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Caring, compassionate and patient with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of BCYP with additional needs.
  • Experience or willingness to learn essential clinical measurements (weight, height, head circumference, blood pressure).
  • Willingness to learn ECG recording procedures when required.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
Training, Induction and Development
  • New starters join NELFT with a comprehensive induction (up to two weeks) including mandatory training, systems training and equipment allocation, held at the Trust head office in Rainham, Essex.
  • Opportunity to meet the executive team, senior managers and participate in drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.
  • Support and opportunities to grow and develop within Children\'s services.
Additional Information
  • Probationary period applies (internal applicants may be exempt).
  • High Cost Area Supplement – London: 15% of basic salary (minimum £4,551; maximum £5,735 per annum pro rata).
  • We prioritise applications from local residents to support our communities.

  • The post holders will work across the children\'s medical teams including Paediatrics and CAMHS.
  • Responsibilities include ensuring timely clinics, informing parents and children of delays as appropriate, maintaining clinical room readiness and adherence to infection control policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and seek safeguarding advice when required.
