The role will involve working alongside a nurse, assisting the patients with their daily activities of living, washing, dressing, nutrition, hygiene, etc to maintain an excellent standard of patient care. You will support and lead the band 2 healthcare assistants. You will carry out venepuncture, cannulation, ECGs and assist in the triaging of new admissions. Promoting a positive atmosphere , promoting independence , encouraging the patients to ensure good recovery and reduced length of stay. We work with a multi-disciplinary team, to ensure that patient care is the priority.,
- Support Medical/Nursing Staff in the assessment of acutely ill patients by being proficient in venepuncture, cannulation and ECG recordings.
- Perform basic Nursing care to the highest attainable standard, in accordance with agreed Nursing Practice.
- Supervise and support Band 2 Support Workers.
- Report significant changes to Senior Nursing staff.
- Ensure effective communication and maintain a good liaison when dealing with patients, visitors and work colleagues.
- Maintain a confidential and professional approach when dealing with patients, their relatives and other professionals.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures in use within the Department.
- Participate in basic housekeeping duties on the request of senior work colleagues.
- Ensure equipment, fixtures and fittings, are left in good order and arrange, in consultation with Sister, for repair and maintenance as appropriate.
- Ensure good liaison with other Wards and Departments.
- Assist in the safe escorting/transferring and discharge of patients as directed by senior staff.
- Participate in the continuing development of the Ward philosophy and approach with care.
- Maintain standards of conduct and dress to sustain public confidence.
- Be willing to undertake NVQ III in care.
- Report all accidents, complaints and untoward incidents to the senior person on duty, in accordance with East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust policy.
- Maintain a safe environment for both patients and other members of staff/
- Be aware of Health and Safety issues, attend and keep up to date with relevant mandatory training e.g.Fire, moving and handling.
We are looking for candidates with good interpersonal, communication and organisational. Previous care experience is also desirable ideally gained in a healthcare environment. In house training will be provided. It is essential that the successful applicant is committed to professional development and has the ability to work as part of a team and independently using their own initiative.
