Job description

To work as an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team, providing high-quality care for patients under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional. To promote good communication that supports the dignity, care, and safety of the patients. To assist in maintaining a safe working environment and the provision of compassionate care.

Our service users come from a variety of cultural backgrounds, and the Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) must be able to communicate effectively.

This post is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route (formerly Tier 2) or Health and Care Worker visa. Therefore, only candidates who can demonstrate their right to work in the UK without sponsorship will be considered.

Supporting Clinical & Patient Excellence
  • Assist in the provision of nursing care under the supervision of a registered healthcare practitioner, including:
  • Assisting patients with personal hygiene requirements, e.g., bed baths, showers, hair washing, etc.
  • Meeting patients' nutritional needs, supporting at mealtimes, completing fluid and food charts, and reporting concerns to the registered nurse.
  • Safe manual handling of patients, following the manual handling assessment form completed by a registered nurse.
  • Collecting specimens such as stool, urine, mid-stream urine, catheter specimens, sputum, and wound swabs.
  • Documenting admission details, including next of kin, social situation, and patient property.
  • Assisting patients with continence needs, e.g., helping to use the toilet, providing a commode, monitoring urine and bowel movements.
  • Recognising and respecting the equality and diversity of patients, clients, relatives, and multidisciplinary teams by supporting non-discriminatory practice and acknowledging personal beliefs and identities.
  • Maintaining a clean and tidy environment, including bed areas, store cupboards, sluice, treatment room, and equipment used for procedures.
  • Undertaking the cleaning of ward equipment according to policy and infection control procedures.
