Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Band 3 Healthcare Assistant at Moorfields at St. George's Hospital NHS Trust.

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and flexible Healthcare Assistant to join the St George's Theatre team. Prior ophthalmology experience is not required but desirable. This is a hybrid role with administrative duties included in the post. The successful applicant will be based mainly at MEH St George's theatres on part time with ample opportunity for locum work.

The post holder, after the necessary training and induction, will take the responsibility for the operational support and delivery of ophthalmic theatre services.

The post holder is responsible for assisting in the care of the surgical patient during the peri-operative period by supporting the multi-disciplinary team.

Clinical Duties Include:

  • Assisting in the preparation of the operating theatre.
  • Assisting the surgical team during surgical procedures as a theatre circulator.
  • Assisting in the general upkeep and maintenance of stock levels in theatres.
  • Providing a safe environment that minimises the risk of infection.
  • Be part of the team in ensuring the team brief, surgical safety checklist and de-brief is done effectively.
  • Assist qualified staff in the transport of patients from Duke Elder Ward to theatres and recovery.
  • Moving and transferring patients between beds and operating tables in a safe manner, with the minimum discomfort to patients.
  • Work alongside the qualified staff to perform stock checks and procurement of consumables.

Operational Support Include:

  • GENESIS system scanning support
  • GALAXY Theatre System Management Support
  • Ordering and upkeep of consumables, supplies, implants and instruments.
