We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our supportive team on a fixed-term basis at Ash Trees Surgery. The post holder will work as an integral member of the general practice team, providing support to clinicians in delivering high-quality patient care.
This role will focus on conducting NHS Health Checks, performing ECGs, and undertaking venepuncture (phlebotomy), as well as contributing to the wider health promotion and preventative health agenda of the practice.

Ash Trees Surgery is a six-site practice, located on the picturesque border of North Lancashire and South Cumbria, we are part of Carnforth and Milnthorpe PCN and work collaboratively with Park View Surgery, where we prioritize exceptional patient care and collaborative teamwork.
The job description and person specification give an outline of the tasks, responsibilities and outcomes required for the role. The post holder will carry out any other duties as may reasonably be required to fulfil the objectives of the business.
Carry out NHS Health Checks for eligible patients aged 40-74.
Accurately record and assess patient biometric data including blood pressure,pulse, height, weight, BMI, cholesterol levels, and lifestyle risk factors.
Use appropriate templates on clinical systems e.g EMIS to document findings.
Provide patients with basic lifestyle advice or refer to other services as necessary
(e.g., smoking cessation, weight management).
Ensure understanding of current NHS Health Check protocols and criteria.
Perform venepuncture efficiently and safely, following infection control protocols and consent procedures.
Label and dispatch samples accurately according to practice procedures.
Record all interventions in the patient record system.
Perform ECGs as requested by clinicians.
Ensure correct electrode placement and patient preparation.
Recognise abnormal ECG tracings and escalate appropriately.
Maintain ECG equipment and report faults as necessary.
Additional Responsibilities:
Support chronic disease reviews as directed by nursing or GP staff.
Chaperone duties as required. Assist in recall and follow-up processes for chronic disease monitoring or preventive health. Maintain accurate, timely, and legible patient records. Follow infection control, safeguarding, and confidentiality policies. Participate in training and development activities as required
