Job description
Overview

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Health Care Assistant to join our nursing team. The post-holder will work under the supervision of the nursing team and GP partners to provide high-quality, patient-centred care. The role is for 37 hours per week and could be split between two people who wish to take on part-time hours. We are a GP Practice with an emphasis on team work and staff development.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical Duties (as trained and competent to undertake): Undertake basic clinical observations (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation)
  • Perform venepuncture and collect specimens (urine, swabs, etc.)
  • Carry out ECGs
  • Assist in chronic disease monitoring (e.g., asthma, COPD, diabetes reviews)
  • Support health promotion and lifestyle advice (diet, smoking cessation, weight management)
  • Conduct NHS Health Checks
  • Ensure infection prevention and control standards are maintained at all times
  • Accurately record patient data in clinical system (EMIS Web)
  • Prepare and maintain clinical areas and equipment
  • Ensure adequate stock levels of clinical supplies
  • Process and record vaccinations and other interventions
  • Participate in recall systems for patients with long-term conditions
  • Assist in maintaining practice infection control audits and health & safety checks
  • Administrative Duties:
  • Maintain accuracy of patient records and documentation
  • Adhere to practice policies and procedures
  • Team & Organisational Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively with the wider practice team to deliver safe and effective care
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings, training, and appraisal processes
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with GDPR and practice policies
  • Adhere to safeguarding procedures for children and vulnerable adults
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement projects, and CQC compliance
Qualifications
  • Essential: Experience ideally as a Health Care Assistant; willingness to train as a phlebotomist
  • Desirable: Experience of working as a Health Care Assistant in a GP Practice
