A local healthcare provider in Barnsley is seeking a compassionate Healthcare Assistant to support patients and families in a hospice setting. You will assist nursing staff in delivering high-quality holistic care, monitor care plans, and maintain accurate patient documentation. The ideal candidate has experience in health and social care, particularly in palliative care, and holds relevant qualifications. This is a part-time role with varied shifts.
Please note this position is for 30hrs/week
This role matters: We are looking for a Healthcare Assistant who is compassionate and driven to make a difference to patients and their loved ones at a difficult time in their lives.
As a Healthcare Assistant at Barnsley Hospice In-patient Unit (IPU), you'll be supporting patients, families and loved ones in their time of greatest need. We provide free specialist palliative care and support to patients with life limiting illness whilst offering vital emotional support for their loved ones.
This will require you to be able to communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals, both verbally and in writing; to share our commitment to maintaining high standards in everything we do; and to demonstrate that you can work effectively within a team that behaves in accordance with our values.
The role is varied and busy as you will be working a variety of shifts including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.

To support and assist registered nursing staff in the delivery ofholistic care for allocated patients in the IPU, in keeping with the needs andwishes of patients and their families.
Barnsley Hospice is a charity that provides specialist palliative and end of life care to hundreds of local people and those close to them each year. Our main priority is to achieve the best possible quality of life for people living with a life- limiting illness, whilst supporting those close to them during the period of illness and bereavement. As a specialist care provider, the range of skills we offer include, pain and symptom management, emotional support and end of life care. The hospice currently employs about 100 people and has a team of volunteers, based both at the hospice and within our Retail Hub.

Quality (includessafety/experience/effectiveness)
Underthe supervision of a registered nurse, and in accordance with patient wishes,provide a high standard of holistic care to patients and their families.
Helpto deliver, monitor and evaluate individual care plans to patients,communicating effectively to the multi-disciplinary team and seeking advice andsupport from colleagues as necessary.
Ensurethat patient notes are updated accurately with relevant information on anongoing basis.
Reportcomplaints or concerns promptly to the IPU Sister or a more senior member ofstaff.
FollowHospice procedures and protocols in caring for patients at all times in orderto minimise health and safety, infection and other risks and to maintain ahigh-quality service.
Provide cover across hospice services as required.
Workforce Development & ProfessionalStandards
Participate in quality improvement,practice development and innovation activities in the team to provide bestpractice.
Contribute to team learning anddevelopment activities to make improvements in practice.
Maintain IT competency in order to makefull use of equipment e.g., computers, tablets, e-mail, the internet andon-line training.
Develop and maintain IT competency inthe use of all Barnsley Hospice systems relevant to your role, includingservice specific systems.
Recognise the purpose and roles of otherprofessionals in own team and how to contribute as an effective team member.
Develop good working relationships withother professionals whilst recognising boundaries of own role.
Recognisehow to access and utilise available support systems for self and others workingin palliative care.
Other Responsibilities
To undertake any other duties,commensurate with the role as required by the Hospice management.
To act as an ambassador of theHospice, maintaining honesty, integrity and trustworthiness at all times.
The post holder will be expected tomaintain strict confidentiality at all times.
The post holder will ensure that theyare aware of and apply health and safety and fire precautions.
The post holder will ensure thatclinical risk management and safeguarding procedures and relevant good practiceguidelines are followed at all times.
The post holder is to ensure dataprotection is maintained at all times.
The post holder will be flexible interms of working hours in order to meet service needs.
Thepost holder will support the Hospice as required, across the range of his/herduties as appropriate within the grading of this post. In the context of rapid and ongoing changewithin the Hospice, the above responsibilities represent the current prioritiesand requirements for the post. Thesepriorities will develop and evolve over time.Any significant changes will be the subject of full communication andconsultation with the post holder.
