Job Summary

The Role

We are seeking a healthcare assistant interested in supporting individuals experiencing problematic alcohol or drug use to join our Via R3 Substance Misuse Service in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

This role is based within our nursing team and offers significant opportunities for growth and innovation within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment of clinical and non-clinical professionals.

The primary goal is to deliver high-quality care to service users and improve their health and outcomes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing harm reduction advice, including overdose prevention, wound awareness, and naloxone distribution.
  • Conducting dry blood spot testing and referring for Hepatitis B vaccinations and Hepatitis C treatment as needed.
  • Performing healthcare assessments for new and existing service users.
  • Supporting service users to enhance their health through referrals to services like Smoking Cessation or the Falls Clinic.

Training will be provided to undertake additional clinical duties such as ECGs. After successful completion of probation and relevant training (e.g., NVQ Level 3), there may be opportunities to pursue a nursing qualification with Via support.

The Service

Adult Drug and Alcohol Services across Gloucestershire transferred to Via on 1st April 2024. This role offers a chance to build on service strengths, develop new initiatives, and contribute positively within this new contract.
