Job summary

Europlan Group is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Supervisor to join the on-site project team for a state-of-the-art subsea power cable facility at Port of Nigg, Scotland, in partnership with Sumitomo Electric.

You will monitor and promote high health and safety standards, ensure CDM 2015 compliance, lead inductions, audits, RAMS, and support incident investigations across the EPCM scope.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH qualification or equivalent is essential.
• Experience with CDM 2015 and UK construction regs desirable.
• Experience on EPCM projects preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular site inspections, safety tours, and audits and record findings.
• Monitor RAMS and Construction Phase Plan compliance.
• Ensure CDM 2015 and site procedures are followed.
• Check permits to work (hot works, confined spaces, working at height, excavation, lifting) and ensure proper issue/display/closeout.
• Monitor scaffolding, plant, lifting equipment, and PPE for inspection/certification requirements (LOLER/PUWER).
• Assist with risk assessments and method statements communication with site teams/subcontractors.
• Identify hazards and stop work when there is imminent danger.
• Support incident investigations and RIDDOR reporting where applicable.
• Maintain COSHH register and safe storage/handling of hazardous substances.
• Deliver site inductions to new starters, contractors, visitors; support toolbox talks and safety briefs.
• Promote a positive safety culture and worker engagement through committees.

Europlan Group is a leading international engineering and project services company, delivering innovative, safety-driven solutions across the energy and industrial sectors.

We have been appointed as the EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management) contractor for a state-of-the-art subsea power cable manufacturing facility at the Port of Nigg, in partnership with Japanese multinational company Sumitomo Electric.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Health & Safety Supervisor to join our onsite project team. You will play a key role in monitoring and promoting high standards of health, safety, and welfare across the project, ensuring compliance with UK and Scottish legislation, CDM 2015, HSE guidance, and company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct regular site inspections, safety tours, and audits, recording findings and following up on corrective actions.
• Monitor compliance with the Construction Phase Plan, Risk Assessments, and Method Statements (RAMS).
• Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with CDM 2015 requirements and site-specific health and safety procedures.
• Check permits to work, including hot works, confined space, working at height, excavation, and lifting operations, are correctly issued, displayed, and closed out.
• Monitor scaffolding, plant, lifting equipment, and PPE to ensure compliance with relevant inspection and certification requirements, including Scaff Tags, LOLER, and PUWER.
• Support the review and communication of Risk Assessments and Method Statements with site teams and subcontractors.
• Identify hazards and unsafe practices and stop work where there is a risk of serious or imminent danger.
• Assist with incident, near-miss, and accident investigations, including supporting the completion of RIDDOR reports where applicable.
• Maintain and monitor the site's COSHH register and ensure the safe storage, handling, and use of hazardous substances.
• Deliver site inductions to new starters, contractors, and visitors where required.
• Support toolbox talks, safety briefings, and other H&S communication initiatives.
• Promote a positive safety culture and encourage worker engagement through safety committees, worker forums, and other initiatives.
• Liaise with subcontractor supervisors and site management to ensure consistent health and safety standards across all trades.
• Maintain accurate site H&S records, inspection logs, photographic reports, and relevant registers, including fire, first aid, and accident records.
• Prepare weekly and monthly H&S reports for the Site/Project Manager and wider business.
• Support the maintenance of the Health & Safety File in accordance with CDM 2015 requirements.
• Ensure emergency arrangements, including fire, first aid, and evacuation procedures, are established, communicated, and regularly tested.
• Act as a site point of contact for HSE inspectors and other regulatory bodies as required.
• Keep up to date with changes to UK and Scottish health and safety legislation, HSE guidance, industry standards, and best practice.

What We’re Looking For:

• NEBOSH Construction Certificate or National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, or an equivalent qualification in Occupational Health and Safety Management, either held or currently being worked towards.
• Previous experience in a construction H&S supervisory, advisor, or management role, ideally on a project of similar scale and complexity.
• Strong knowledge of UK construction health and safety legislation and best practice.
• Sound working knowledge of CDM 2015, the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, and associated UK construction regulations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence site behaviours and constructively challenge unsafe practices.
• Competent in Microsoft Office and site-based H&S reporting software and applications.
• Ability to work collaboratively with site management, subcontractors, and project teams to promote a strong safety culture.
• TechIOSH (Technical Member of IOSH) or actively working towards IOSH membership.
• CSCS Gold (Supervisor) or Black (Manager/Professional) card.
• First Aid at Work qualification.
• Environmental awareness qualification or experience, such as IEMA or equivalent.
• Previous experience working within the UK construction industry.
• Experience working on major industrial, manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, or construction projects.
• Experience working within EPCM project environments.

Working Conditions:

• Primarily site-based, working outdoors and within active construction areas in all weather conditions typical of the Scottish climate.
• Requirement to wear full PPE at all times while on site.
• May involve working at height, in confined areas, and around live plant and machinery.
• Standard site hours are expected to be approximately 07:00–17:00, with occasional flexibility required to cover early starts, late finishes, or weekend working to meet project requirements.
