Who are we:
Southdown is the largest not-for-profit provider of care, support, and housing in Sussex. We’ve been helping people access stable accommodation, mental health and care services since 1972, now counting over 900 people as part of our team.

What you’ll be doing:

In this role, you will ensure legal compliance and provide practical, person-centred health and safety advice and support. Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, you’ll be responsible for assisting with accident and incident management, including assigning severity ratings and supporting colleagues to reduce future risks.

You’ll also support the development and implementation of risk assessments—such as site-specific, COSHH, infection control, lone Working and maternity.

Conducting internal H&S audits and contributing to policy reviews will help you identify improvements and promote best practices.

This role requires travel across Brighton & Hove and East and West Sussex, so having a driving licence and access to a car is essential.

We welcome applications from candidates with experience in roles like Health and Safety Advisor, Officer or Specialist who are passionate about creating safe, supportive environments for our staff, clients and tenants.

Perks and benefits:

· Interest-free loans: assistance with larger costs that arise such as tenancy deposits, season travel tickets or buying a car.
· Access to the Easit Network: discounts and incentives on train, bus and car journeys such as 15% off eligible daily and season rail tickets.
· Blue Light card: access to discount services for the social care sector with savings across thousands of online shops, restaurants, and high-street vendors.
· Free advice and counselling service: confidential emotional support and practical guidance from our independent telephone service.
· 25 days paid holiday plus bank holidays
