Health and Safety Officer

They are currently seeking a proactive and dynamic Health and Safety Officer to join their team and contribute to their ongoing commitment to H&S excellence.

Main duties and responsibilities

The H&S Officer will play a critical role in ensuring that health and safety standards are maintained at the site. This position offers the opportunity to make a real impact by advising management, implementing safety measures, and ensuring compliance. The main duties and responsibilities include:

  • Goal Setting & Strategy: Assist in defining H&S goals and objectives for the site, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Compliance Management: Implement and review H&S protocols, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. Prepare documentation for compliance audits and inspections.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with H&S trends, policies, regulations, and best practices, using this knowledge to drive continuous improvement at the site.
  • Site Inspections & Audits: Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and violations. Ensure corrective actions are taken to maintain a safe working environment.
  • External Coordination: Manage external inspections, risk assessments, and coordinate with third-party services when required.
  • Safety Meetings & Training: Lead and support safety meetings with site safety reps and provide relevant training to staff as needed. Develop and deliver H&S training resources.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate and analyse Health and Safety deficiencies, incidents, and near misses, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • External Suppliers Coordination: Coordinate with external vendors to ensure safety equipment, calibration, and maintenance of safety systems are met.
  • COMAH Support: Assist with COMAH-related duties and intervention programs as required.
  • Safety Culture Promotion: Drive the development of a strong safety culture, promoting awareness and behavioural change across site teams and individuals.
  • Innovation in Safety Systems: Stay updated on new safety products and techniques to enhance systems of work and environmental performance.

Requirements

  • NEBOSH Certificate Qualified is essential for this role
  • Proven experience in health, safety, and environmental roles, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of current EHS legislation and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence at all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments, audits, and inspections independently.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify areas for improvement and track EHS performance.
  • Experience with Legionella management is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • A proactive and hands-on approach to managing Health and Safety issues.
