Job description

The Health and Safety Officer collaborates and partners with the Site Managers to develop and implement Health and Safety systems and strategies that enables a positive safety culture to keep our people safe, healthy and well.

The role is responsible for performing the delivery of diverse and contemporary safety approaches and practices within the construction materials business segment, at various locations.

This is a hands-on role, in a fast-moving work environment and you will be promoting and supporting a strong health, safety and environment culture across our workforce. The Health and Safety Officer is a permanent, full-time position based at Albion Park, NSW.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Perform site safety inspections, hazard identifications and risk assessments, implementing corrective actions.
  • Investigate injuries and incidents and provide corrective action recommendations.
  • Maintain and review safety documentation and systems, including development of SWMS.
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics.
  • Support compliance with legislation, MAAS policies and standards and the safety management system.
  • Assist with employee inductions and training, including educating workforce on their rights and obligations under relevant safety legislation.
  • Assist with internal audits and support action plans.
  • Assist with Workcover Claims Management and Return to Work Coordination when required for specific operations.

Knowledge and Experience required :

  • Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety / OHS required.
  • Good understanding of Work Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Working knowledge of acts, regulations codes of practice and standards.
  • Operating knowledge of Heavy Plant & Equipment.
  • Experience in Health and Safety preferably in a blue collar industry.
  • Intermediate computer literacy in Microsoft Office programs and systems e.g. SharePoint.
  • Well-organised and detail-oriented professional with strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to be self-directed.
  • Excellent attention to detail a must.
  • Must be self-motivated with the ability to handle, organise and prioritise multiple tasks and able to perform under pressure to meet deadlines, where required.
  • Listens, understands, and adapts to an audience and can communicate clearly and persuasively.
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders across all business units and on major projects.
  • Takes ownership of outcomes, and can balance accuracy with timeliness.
