Job Description
We are seeking a NEBOSH qualified Health and Safety Manager with 5+ years of experience within FMCG, working alongside the Senior team at our bakery in Wigston, Leicestershire.
Key Tasks include:
- Ensure the site’s compliance with all aspects of the Company H&S Policy and associated procedures in the UK and group requirements; provide advice, guidance, support, coaching, and training to the team.
- Develop, implement, and monitor the Health & Safety policy.
- Support the environmental plan and Environment Manager.
- Promote Health & Safety awareness and ensure completion of all Health & Safety functions.
- Ensure risk assessments, SSOW, Lotto, RAMS, and contractors’ control are in place and reviewed regularly.
- Prepare Health & Safety statistical performance reports (KPIs) and drive improvements in H&S performance indicators.
- Initiate action plans following incidents, accidents, near misses, or legislative changes.
- Record and investigate accidents and near misses, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective/preventative actions; assist managers in investigations.
- Facilitate and lead the site’s H&S Committee.
- Manage the safety observation program and conduct regular H&S audits (CATS).
- Ensure provision of clear and relevant Health & Safety communication.
- Lead initiatives with line management to improve commitment and standards of HSE, enhancing site performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve Group H&S processes and support employee engagement.
- Collaborate with the site’s HR Manager to ensure statutory compliance.
- Work with the site’s Trainer to ensure all employees and agency workers receive necessary HS&E training.
- Coordinate with group HS&E/engineering to deliver projects ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Provide analysis and reporting for annual budgeting.
- Manage site safety/security systems (CCTV, fob access, etc.).
- Liaise with HSE, Environment Agency, and other enforcement agencies.
- Manage fire control systems and ammonia safety protocols.
- Participate in the site ‘food defence’ and crisis management teams.
- Oversee First Aid provision.
- Contribute to the site’s crisis management team.
- Monitor insurance inspections and ensure ongoing compliance.
- Record statutory dust and noise levels and take corrective actions.
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies concerning health and safety incidents.
- Support the Group H&S Committee with relevant reports and data.
- Participate in group cross-audit processes, requiring UK and international travel.
