HSE Manager - 6-Month Maternity Cover FTC

Overview

A vacancy has arisen for a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager (Maternity Cover) to join a large, fast-paced site in Carmarthen. Reporting to the Site Director, with a dotted line to the UK Head of Health & Safety, this role offers both operational and strategic responsibility, supporting the leadership team to deliver key safety and environmental objectives. The position sits within a leading UK food manufacturer, part of a major European group known for its long-term stability, commitment to sustainability, and strong culture of innovation - offering real opportunities to drive change and grow professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert support and guidance on all Health, Safety, Fire, and Environmental legislation, ensuring legal compliance across site operations.
  • Lead risk assessments, accident investigations, and the development of safe working practices to reduce incidents and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Monitor and report on site HSE performance, maintaining accurate data, supporting audits, and recommending practical improvements.
  • Deliver and coordinate health and safety training, ensuring training matrices are up to date and refresher sessions are completed.
  • Manage RIDDOR reporting, emergency procedures, and statutory compliance, including machinery safety and contractor controls.
  • Support environmental compliance, including ISO audit readiness, permit monitoring, and liaison with relevant authorities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years' experience in a Health & Safety Managerial role, preferably in Food Manufacturing.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate minimum
  • Have a good commercial approach to managing business risk.
  • Good negotiating and self-organisation skills.
  • Ability to produce detailed reports and numerical information.
