Health and Safety Manager

Location: Blackmill; Bridgend & Cambrian; Tonypandy

Pay: GBP50,000 to GBP60,000 (Depending on Experience)

Schedule: Monday to Friday; 8am to 4pm

Role

As a Health and Safety Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring our client protects its workforce, meets regulatory requirements, protects the environment, and maintains high-quality standards in the manufacturing and distribution of their products.

You will use your knowledge and expertise to promote a positive H&S culture in the workplace, while encouraging and training staff to comply with environmental obligations. You will work closely with other managers across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Take full responsibility for H&S at all sites, acting as the escalation point.
  • Manage the full H&S remit, including safety briefings, risk assessments, and developing and implementing H&S strategies in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure company Management Systems are up to date and compliant.
  • Drive initiatives to mitigate operational risks.
  • Support a positive safety culture.
  • Conduct operational tasks such as risk assessments, site inspections, and equipment installations.
  • Manage and control the Hazard Tag process.
  • Maintain records, monitor accidents, report incidents, and implement improvements to reduce risks.
  • Chair monthly H&S meetings, documenting and addressing actions.
  • Monitor and report on SHEQ performance metrics.
  • Lead, support, and enforce training across all levels.
  • Maintain and update SHEQ documentation, including policies, procedures, and safety instructions.
  • Coordinate with the Compliance Manager to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Support and mentor the quality team.
  • Stay updated on legislation and HSE developments affecting the industry.
  • Manage workload efficiently, being time and cost conscious.
  • Promote continuous improvement, collaboration, and innovation, leveraging technology for efficiency.
  • Ensure high standards of housekeeping and adherence to safety standards.
  • Maintain a safe working environment in compliance with HSE requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary for the business.

Skills:

  • NEBOSH Qualified or equivalent.
  • Experience as a H&S Manager / SHEQ Manager.
  • Background in fast-paced manufacturing environments, ideally food manufacturing or packaging.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and deliver results.
