Job Description

In this role, you will design a framework to support my client in their approach to the identification, management, measurement, monitoring, and reporting of health, safety, and environmental risk. You will assist the Head of Support Services in managing H&S Risk to meet the company's objectives.

You will manage the day-to-day activities of the highly experienced and effective Health & Safety Team, including a large community of motivated Health and Safety Representatives. You will lead and develop an experienced team of four to deliver statutory compliance (section 7), drive a safety-oriented culture, and further develop policies, strategies, and budgets to ensure the safety and health of my client's staff in the workplace.

What you'll be responsible for
  1. Lead the commitment to high and improving standards of H&S and ensure compliance with strategic aims and objectives.
  2. Ensure that all identified risks (safety or business) are supported by policies and procedures compliant with current statutory provisions and regulations.
  3. Oversee the daily operations of the Health, Safety and Environmental Department, including the centralized reporting system.
  4. Advise, guide, and support the management teams to maintain compliance with all current and future regulatory provisions regarding Health, Safety, and Environmental matters.
  5. Assist the change management team to develop and implement policies and procedures, ensuring standards are applied across the business.
  6. Report incidents in line with statutory requirements.
  7. Review all incidents and accident reports to foster continuous improvement, especially in management systems.
  8. Advise management at all levels to ensure workplace controls are suitable, sufficient, and regularly reviewed.
  9. Provide safety data analysis, including root cause and trend analysis, and produce safety alerts to share lessons learned across the business, including contractors.
  10. Manage the training team to identify and deliver appropriate instruction and training on hazard identification, risks, and risk controls for all roles.
Desired skills and attributes
  • Experience managing risk, safety, quality, and/or environmental management systems, particularly ISO 9001, 14001, OHSAS 18001, within a large construction or shipbuilding organization.
  • IT literacy, including Power BI and Microsoft Office, to support data presentation and decision-making.
  • Approachable and professional attitude with influential communication skills to build strong relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Meticulous, organized, methodical, and self-motivated approach to tasks.
  • Strong operational focus with proven management and leadership skills.
  • Fully qualified in Health and Safety Management (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent). Please do not apply if you hold only the NEBOSH certificate.
  • Recent CPD activity.
