Job summary

Ganymede Solutions Limited is seeking an experienced Freelance QHSE Manager for a 3-month contract in Nottingham. The role is hybrid, with four days on site, and starts immediately, supporting a safety-critical transport and infrastructure operation.

The successful candidate will collaborate with engineering, operational and safety leadership to translate health and safety requirements into practical improvements on the ground. Rail or transport experience is advantageous.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH General Certificate or higher as a minimum.
• Strong understanding of health and safety legislation in live ops.
• Experience developing or implementing Safety Management Systems.
• Ability to identify operational risks, investigate incidents and drive corrective actions.
• Confidence in influencing managers to strengthen safety engagement.

Responsibilities

• Provide interim QHSE leadership for a safety‑critical transport operation.
• Work with engineering, operations and safety leadership to strengthen the safety culture.
• Identify gaps in safety arrangements and implement practical, sustainable improvements.
• Spend time on the operation to understand risks first-hand and support on-ground decisions.

I'm working with a major transport and infrastructure operation looking for an experienced QHSE professional to provide interim support during an important period for the business.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys being close to operations, influencing decision-makers and turning health and safety requirements into practical improvements on the ground. You'll work alongside engineering, operational and safety leadership teams, helping strengthen the safety culture across a complex, safety-critical environment.

With a relatively small team, your experience, initiative and ability to build relationships will make a genuine difference from day one.

I am keen to speak with a credible Health & Safety professional who can quickly understand an operation, build trust with managers and confidently challenge where necessary.

You’ll ideally bring:

• A NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum.
• A strong understanding of health and safety legislation and how to apply it in a live operational environment.
• Experience developing, reviewing or implementing Safety Management Systems.
• The ability to identify operational risks, investigate incidents and drive meaningful corrective actions.
• Confidence influencing managers and improving safety awareness where standards or engagement need strengthening.

Experience within rail or transport would be advantageous, but I am equally interested in people from engineering, construction, infrastructure or facilities management who understand complex operational risks.
