Looking to get involved in one of the largest construction projects in the South West?

We're recruiting a Project Health & Safety Manager in Newton Abbot, South Devon, for the expansion of HMP Channings Wood. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse project involving state-of-the-art construction, including two new fully electric, energy-efficient T60 houseblocks and various ancillary works.

Location: Newton Abbot, South Devon, South West

Contract: Permanent, full-time

Responsibilities

This role provides leadership in Health, Safety, and Wellbeing for the HMP Channings Wood project. The manager will serve as the main point of contact between the project team, Kier Construction Western & Wales Construction & Engineering Director, and Regional HS&W Manager. Responsibilities include:

• Acting as the primary contact for the project team and regional managers
• Developing and maintaining the project's HSW strategy in line with business and project-specific plans
• Communicating HSW updates, safety reports, lessons learned, and disseminating information through briefings and meetings
• Leading fortnightly HSW meetings to ensure coordination, communication, and implementation of safety actions
• Conducting Site Safety Inspections (SSI), providing advice and guidance, and recording using Novade
• Reviewing SSI corrective actions and ensuring timely closure
• Assisting teams with risk assessments, safe systems of work, and checking method statements
• Updating regional and project directors on HSW issues and incidents

Qualifications and Experience

This role is ideal for candidates with:

• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent in occupational health and safety
• Proven experience leading construction H&S on major Tier one contracts in a senior management role
• Strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills
• Self-motivated with excellent presentation skills
• Thorough knowledge of H&S legislation, regulations, and best practices
• Analytical skills for hazard identification and risk assessment
• Experience managing HSW aspects of large construction projects
• Experience with behavioral change programs in H&S
