Job description

Reporting to the Senior Health and Safety Manager, this highly proactive role will include responsibility for Health and Safety Management across the Liverpool University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Across the Trust, your principal role will be to implement and manage the ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System, providing assurance through continual auditing, monitoring, and review to ensure the Trust meets its statutory obligations across all operational activities.

You will develop, implement, manage, and monitor policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety to ensure compliance and active risk management, including mitigation plans, business continuity, emergency preparedness, response, and recovery.

You will promote a strong ‘Safety Culture’ at all times and ensure that delegated health, safety, and related projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards, following recognised Project Management standards.

The Role Holder Will Be Responsible For
  1. Attending and actively contributing to relevant groups, boards, committees, and meetings across the Trust.
  2. Participating in the Trust Health and Safety Group as appropriate.
  3. Providing competent professional advice.
  4. Developing, implementing, and maintaining risk-driven audits.
  5. Working with the Trust legal team to analyse and investigate claims.
  6. Ensuring health and safety codes of practice, policies, procedures, and standards are in place and regularly updated. Developing training with the support of the Health and Safety Training Manager to ensure relevant training is delivered.
  7. Monitoring and evaluating H&S performance through audits.
  8. Supporting the development of leading and lagging indicators and monitoring performance for continual improvement.
  9. Supporting the implementation and maintenance of ISO 45001 standards.
  10. Preparing reports for relevant groups, committees, and boards.
  11. Overseeing and maintaining the health and safety internet site.
  12. Managing and coordinating health and safety tours and inspections.
