Job description

Lawcris Panel Products Limited are looking for a proactive Health & Safety Manager to join their management team in Leeds.

Ideally, the candidate will have experience working within warehouse and transport environments. As part of the role, you will be reporting to the company directors and working closely with our senior managers.

Candidates should have a broad range of experience and knowledge of health and safety procedures and standards. Experience in Environmental Management would also be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on developing, implementing, and maintaining H&S policies and procedures.
  • Take ownership of risk assessments, implementing robust control measures for the company’s H&S related undertakings.
  • Attend company safety meetings / courses where/if required throughout the year.
  • Ensure compliance with current H&S legislation and industry best practices.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and incident investigations with a professional approach.
  • Review occupational health provision and act on received recommendations aligning company policy and practices with relevant regulations.
  • Ensure any non-conformances identified by external H&S partner audits are closed out in a timely manner and where necessary, implement measures to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Monitor first aid and fire marshal requirements across the business ensuring training is in line with statutory requirements where necessary and HSE advised refreshers.
  • Inspire and empower employees through engaging H&S training and support.
  • Choosing, planning, and dealing with contractors, assuring best practices before, during, and after works are completed.

What We're Looking For:

  • NEBOSH qualified (National General Certificate or equivalent) - a must-have!
  • Proven record in H&S Management within a storage and distribution environment (experience within a woodworking and associated machinery environment would be advantageous).
  • A deep understanding of HSE legislation, regulations, and best practices.
  • A hands-on, proactive attitude with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence at all levels.
  • Promote an accident-free workplace, where possible put processes in place to reduce incidents to as low as reasonably practicable.
  • Initiate and manage accident and near miss investigations, identify and implement recommendations and changes in processes and training to help prevent recurrences.
  • Submit RIDDOR reports through the HSE’s portal, if needed, comply with HSE inspectors or investigations.
  • Investigate near misses and advise managers/implement recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Manage environmental compliance in accordance with legislation and environmental guidelines.
  • Ensure continuity with company accreditations - ISO14001, PEFC, FSC.
  • Promote sustainability within the organisation.
  • Audit, review, and update company policies and procedures.
  • Quarterly environmental site audits.
  • Liaise with site management teams to ensure site compliance.
  • Co-ordinate and prepare for environmental accreditation audits.
  • Promote sustainable practices and energy savings through business activities.
  • Attend company safety meetings / courses as required throughout the year.

Requirements:

  • Educated to degree level; a Health and Safety or related degree is preferable but not essential. An OH&S level 6 NVQ in health and safety management would be advantageous.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of H&S standards, regulations, and procedures.
  • The ability to work with people, communicate effectively, and resolve issues.
  • Experience in a H&S management role (required).
  • Driving Licence (required).
  • The ability to recognise problems and deal with them in a speedy and effective manner.
