Health and Safety Manager

The Health and Safety Manager oversees, implements and coordinates all health and safety activities across the company. Through collaboration, the H&S Manager facilitates the implementation of H&S policies across the UK site and provides technical H&S support to all. The H&S manager is responsible for promoting health and safety, complying with regulations and maintaining safe environments for employers and visitors.

Responsibilities

  1. Risk Assessment and Management
    Identify potential risks in the workplace through regular inspections and risk assessments. Implement measures to reduce risks.
  2. Training and Education
    Provide induction and training to employees and visitors on safety procedures, PPE, emergency procedures. Ensure appropriate numbers of employees are trained sufficiently with regard to First Aid, Fire Safety. Ensure other safety training is in place including, but not limited to IOSH, Manual Handling and Working at Height. Identify training needs as appropriate.
  3. Accident / Incident Investigation
    Investigate accidents, near misses and other incidents to determine cause and preventative measures. Keep detailed records of accidents. Implement corrective measures. Report when applicable.
  4. Compliance
    Remain up to date with regulations ensuring that the company complies with relevant laws and standards.
  5. Inspections and Audits
    Conduct regular inspections and audits of the workplace to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Work with external bodies to ensure up-to-date fire risk assessments and other audits required are in place, up to date and identified actions are being followed through. Work with external bodies to ensure H&S equipment is maintained and inspections are up to date.
  6. Emergency Preparation
    Develop, implement and maintain emergency response plans for scenarios such as fire and medical emergencies. Carry out 6-monthly fire evacuations ensuring measures in place to account for employees, workers and visitors.
  7. Health and Safety Promotion
    Promote employee well-being through initiatives such as ergonomic assessments, occupational health, stress management and health screenings.
  8. Continuous Improvement
    Continuously improve and update health and safety policies and procedures to reflect changes in regulations, technology and best practice. Make improvements in safety performance. Partner with the leadership team to drive a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  9. Policy Development
    Maintain and develop health and safety policies and procedures tailored to the specific needs of the company, and regulatory requirements and best practice.
  10. Maintenance
    Ensure in-date and full stock of First Aid Boxes. Ensure Fire Extinguishers are maintained. Work with others to ensure regular PAT Testing. Walk fire escapes and other high risk areas on a regular basis.
  11. Other
    Other duties as necessary.

H&S Manager Person and Technical Specification
We are looking to recruit an H&S Manager to join the team at Woodford Halse in the UK. The H&S Manager will work closely with the HR Manager in the UK and the teams in the US to support across various functions and initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong organisational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a good understanding of H&S practices and regulations. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to develop H&S practices, policy and processes whilst growing their career, in a fast-paced, exciting organisation.
