Our Human Resources Department plays a vital role in achieving this mission, and we are seeking a dedicated Health and Safety Manager to help us maintain the highest standards of health and safety across all council operations.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with legal requirements and best practices.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits to identify potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Provide expert advice and support to managers and staff on health and safety matters.
  • Organise and deliver health and safety training programs for employees at all levels.
  • Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses, and recommend preventive measures.
  • Maintain accurate records of health and safety activities, including incident reports and training logs.
  • Liaise with external bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and other regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Promote a culture of health and safety awareness throughout the council.
Qualifications and Experience
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualification.
  • Proven experience in a health and safety role, ideally within a local government or public sector environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications and health and safety management software.
