Health & Safety Manager
Location: Borehamwood

Sector: Main Contractor – Landmark Projects (£50m–£150m)
A leading main contractor, known for delivering landmark construction schemes ranging from £50m to £150m in value, is seeking a Health & Safety Manager to join their team on a permanent basis. This role will be based out of Borehamwood, with responsibility across multiple major projects in the region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all sites remain in a safe and compliant condition at all times.
- Implement and enforce the company’s health and safety policy to prevent injury, ill health, damage and wastage.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of all statutory health and safety requirements affecting construction operations.
- Promote the company’s health and safety standards and ensure clear communication of policies to all employees.
- Conduct and record regular health and safety inspections across construction sites, providing detailed feedback to Site Managers, the HSQE Director and the Construction Director.
- Track and close out identified actions from previous reports within required timescales.
- Address and escalate instances of non-compliance with health and safety responsibilities.
- Support Project Managers with accident investigations and ensure timely and accurate close-out reporting.
- Oversee induction processes for all site operatives and subcontractors.
- Ensure welfare facilities and site setup arrangements meet all legal and operational requirements.
- Manage and monitor statutory health and safety notices across all sites.
- Ensure all permits to work are correctly completed and appropriate for the work undertaken.
- Oversee proper storage of COSHH-related items, ensuring no risk to health or the environment.
- Review and approve method statements and risk assessments to ensure suitability for the specific task.
Ideal Candidate:
- NEBOSH qualified or equivalent in Health & Safety.
- Proven experience working for a main contractor across high-value construction projects.
- Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction best practices.
- Able to communicate clearly with all stakeholders from site operatives through to board-level.
- Proactive, organised and confident in enforcing policy across complex live sites.
