The Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for providing specialist health and safety support and guidance to the operational business whilst working closely with other functions, including HR, Business Excellence, and other Business Stakeholders in the UK.
As the Health and Safety Manager, you will be capable of the following key activities:
Responsibilities
- Ensure the successful implementation and operation of the H&S management systems.
- Support the overall strategy of continuous improvement for health and safety initiatives.
- Develop and implement various programmes necessary to meet the health and safety goals.
- Provide expertise, strategic leadership, training, and support for various testing facilities and departments.
- Ensure legal requirements and risks are identified and understood at a leadership and local level.
- Provide support for the evaluation of training needs, development, and the delivery of training.
- Support high potential incident investigations, providing detailed feedback of findings and advice in a manner which enhances the company capability.
- Further improve performance through the implementation of health and safety management systems, including ISO 45001, and other current standards and legislation.
- Monitor, evaluate, and review existing, new, and upcoming health and safety legislation to ensure systems and procedures meet legal compliance.
- Work proactively with managers and other key colleagues to establish and maintain a programme of continuous improvement in health, safety, and wellbeing within their areas of responsibility.
- Oversee and undertake audits where appropriate and ensure an action plan with SMART objectives is established to address issues identified.
- Act in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC staff at all times.
Qualifications
- Minimum NEBOSH qualification or equivalent
- Practical experience and thorough understanding of COSHH, DSEAR
- Excellent understanding of all relevant Health & Safety law and associated regulations
- Experience of auditing systems and processes and assessing audit actions
- Experience in Fire safety is desirable.
Experience
- A minimum of 5+ years’ experience in a health and safety role at a similar level, with a track record of culture change within an organization.
- Line management experience, including providing positive support, advice, and encouragement in colleagues' development.
- Experience in conducting health and safety management audits against ISO 45001 and implementing corrective actions.
- Experience in training, coaching, and mentoring to develop health and safety knowledge and expertise in the UK.
Skills
- Competent IT skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to organize workload effectively to meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a wide variety of contacts.

- Flexibility to travel as required
- Full UK driving license
- Willingness to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check
