Job description

Health and Safety Lead – European Hyperscale Projects

Location: Midlands, UK

Sector: Data Centres / Construction / Concrete & Infrastructure

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced EHS Lead to join a growing construction and infrastructure business supporting major Data Centre projects across the UK and Europe.

This is a senior role with responsibility for driving Environmental, Health & Safety standards across multiple projects and locations. The position will suit an experienced EHS professional who is comfortable operating in fast-paced construction environments and working across different countries, cultures and project teams.

You will be based from the Midlands, with regular travel to projects across the EU.

The projects are large-scale, technically complex Data Centre developments, working alongside major contractors, clients and specialist supply-chain partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop EHS performance across multiple European projects

  • Provide visible, proactive EHS leadership across project teams and site operations

  • Develop, implement and maintain EHS management systems, policies and procedures

  • Ensure compliance with relevant UK and European legislation, standards and client requirements

  • Work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers and operational teams to maintain high standards of health and safety

  • Undertake regular site visits, inspections and audits across European projects

  • Identify risks and implement appropriate control measures

  • Lead incident investigations, root-cause analysis and corrective actions

  • Monitor project EHS performance and produce regular reports for senior management and clients

  • Support the development of project-specific EHS plans, RAMS and risk assessments

  • Provide EHS guidance and support to subcontractors and supply-chain partners

  • Deliver and support toolbox talks, training and EHS briefings

  • Promote a positive safety culture across the organisation

  • Ensure environmental requirements are properly incorporated into project delivery

  • Support sustainability and environmental initiatives across projects

  • Work with clients and principal contractors to ensure EHS expectations are understood and consistently delivered

  • Keep up to date with changes in European EHS legislation and industry best practice

About You

You will be an experienced EHS / HSE / Health & Safety professional with a strong background in construction, engineering, infrastructure or another high-risk environment.

Ideally, you will have experience working on large-scale Data Centre, industrial, civil engineering or major construction projects.

You will be confident working with senior stakeholders and site teams and able to operate independently across multiple projects.

The role requires someone who is commercially aware, pragmatic and able to build strong relationships rather than simply acting as a compliance function.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Strong experience in a senior EHS / HSE / Health & Safety role

  • Construction, engineering, infrastructure or industrial project experience

  • Experience working on large-scale projects

  • Data Centre experience would be highly advantageous

  • NEBOSH or equivalent professional qualification

  • Membership of IOSH or equivalent professional body desirable

  • Strong understanding of construction health and safety legislation

  • Experience undertaking audits, inspections and incident investigations

  • Experience developing and implementing EHS systems and procedures

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout Europe

  • A full UK or EU driving licence

The Package

Competitive salary dependent on experience

European travel and accommodation covered

Opportunity to work across major Data Centre projects throughout Europe

Exposure to some of the largest and most technically advanced construction projects in the market

Strong opportunities for career development and progression

Additional company benefits and professional development support

Location & Travel

The role is ideally based within commuting distance of the Midlands, with the expectation of regular European travel.
