Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in health & safety or HSEQ-focused role, preferably in renewable energy.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK H&S and environmental legislation.
  • Practical experience conducting risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to liaise at all levels.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum); working towards Diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Support or lead the implementation, review, and enforcement of Health, Safety, Environmental, and Compliance policies.
  • Conduct site-based and office audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
  • Monitor project activity and ensure ongoing H&S compliance.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses thoroughly, delivering root cause analyses and driving remedial actions.
  • Maintain accurate compliance records and documentation for regulatory and internal reporting purposes.
  • Assist with the coordination of environmental permits, site licenses, and planning permissions.
  • Deliver induction and refresher training sessions in health, safety, and environmental protocols.
  • Liaise with UK regulators and accreditation bodies to ensure legal compliance and audit readiness.
  • Promote a positive, proactive culture of health and safety across the organisation.

About the Role

RenEnergy is seeking an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Compliance Officer to support and enhance our Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) function. This role will work closely the HSEQ Manager and with the wider operations team, where required, step in to lead compliance processes to ensure best practice across our UK projects.

As our business continues to grow across the renewable energy sector, including solar, battery storage, and infrastructure. We are looking for a dedicated professional to uphold and advance our safety and compliance commitments. The successful candidate will play a key role in aligning daily operations with UK legislation, ISO standards, and internal HSEQ expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support or lead the implementation, review, and enforcement of Health, Safety, Environmental, and Compliance policies in accordance with UK law and ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001).
  • Conduct site-based and office audits, inspections, and risk assessments, particularly in solar installations, construction, and battery storage environments.
  • Monitor project activity and ensure ongoing H&S compliance across all teams, escalating concerns as necessary.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses thoroughly, deliver root cause analyses, and drive remedial actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain accurate compliance records and documentation for regulatory and internal reporting purposes.
  • Assist with the coordination of environmental permits, site licenses, and planning permissions.
  • Deliver induction and refresher training sessions in health, safety, and environmental protocols.
  • Liaise with UK regulators and accreditation bodies to ensure legal compliance and audit readiness.
  • Promote a positive, proactive culture of health and safety across the organisation through engagement and communication.

Ideal Candidate Profile- Essential Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in a health & safety or HSEQ-focused role, preferably in renewable energy, construction, or engineering environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK H&S and environmental legislation.
  • Practical experience conducting risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise at all levels of the business.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum); working towards Diploma or equivalent.
  • ISO awareness and familiarity with management systems such as ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.

Desirable

  • IEMA qualification or environmental management experience.
  • Experience working with solar PV, BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), or construction sites.
  • Relevant degree or background in engineering, environmental science, or occupational safety.
  • First Aid or Fire Marshal trained.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies or safety culture programs.
