Overview:
The Health and Safety Coordinator will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment in compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards. This role involves conducting risk assessments, providing training, managing incidents, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement in health and safety practices within the manufacturing setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and regularly review health and safety policies and procedures to ensure alignment with current legislation, industry standards, and best practices.
- Conduct regular risk assessments of manufacturing processes and facilities to identify potential hazards.
- Implement appropriate control measures to mitigate risks and ensure annual reviews are conducted.
- Provide health and safety training as required, ensuring all employees understand their responsibilities regarding health and safety protocols.
- Support department management in keeping training up to date, ensuring it aligns with the implementation of the new online training system.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- Implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence, maintain accurate records, and report incidents to relevant authorities as required.
- Monitor compliance with health and safety regulations and standards.
- Conduct audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement and ensure prompt implementation of corrective actions.
- Carry out health and safety board audits, ensuring safety crosses, skill matrices, and departmental audits are kept up to date and properly presented.
- Implement measures to promote environmental sustainability and reduce the organization's carbon footprint, such as waste management initiatives and energy conservation programs.
- Liaise with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, local authorities, and contractors, to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements and standards.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within the manufacturing sector.
- Qualification in a related field and/or a professional certification in health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) is necessary.
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulations, and standards relevant to manufacturing organizations.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct risk assessments and incident investigations effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with staff at all levels and external stakeholders.
