Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to fill the role of Health and Safety and Environmental Protection (HS&EP) Support Officer within the UKStratCom Safety Centre.

The post sits within the Chief Environment and Safety Officer (CESO) Team and supports the delivery of the UKStratCom Safety Centre and wider MOD HS&EP objectives.

The role will support various work strands across the Command and supporting MOD Organisations both within the UK and overseas, allowing for diverse opportunities for the successful candidate to develop themselves within the HS&EP field.

The development element of this role is anticipated to follow the standard of the Skills England Safety, Health and Environment Technician Apprenticeship and there may be an opportunity to transfer formally into a MOD Apprenticeship scheme should this be initiated in the near future.

During development, this role will be supported by a network of HS&EP subject matter experts both within the Safety Centre, across UKStratCom and from other MOD organisations to understand MOD and UKStratCom ways of working. The development element of this role will take approximately 24 months.

As the successful candidate develops in the role, they will be required to undertake tasks with minimal supervision to support Safety Centre and UKStratCom and other MOD organisation HS&EP outputs.

The post holders will be expected to be prepared to travel on a regular basis both within the UK and overseas to support work strands, gain experience of the diverse work environments within the team’s area of responsibility and advise colleagues on relevant HS&EP matters. Travel may require being away from home – in UK or overseas for periods of up to 2 weeks. After the first year, the post holder will be expected to work with a UKStratCom unit for a period of 4 weeks which may require UK-only travel.
