About The Role

The Health and Safety Advisor will be based in Belfast, NI, within the Building division, working on projects such as the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast, with occasional travel across Northern Ireland. GRAHAM seeks a proactive individual with knowledge of construction methods, safety, health, environmental legislation, and procedures.

Reporting to the Head of H&S, the successful candidate will advise on flagship projects and support improvements to SHE procedures. The role involves engaging with site teams, business units, and clients to promote safety culture, ensure compliance, and foster continuous improvement.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Providing support and guidance on H&S matters.
  • Promoting health and safety ethos across the company and subcontractors.
  • Leading health & safety initiatives.
  • Conducting compliance and behavioral audits.
  • Investigating incidents and high potential observations.
  • Delivering training, inductions, and toolbox talks.
  • Reviewing safety documentation and preparing site bulletins.
  • Updating legislation and safety memos.
  • Assisting with construction phase plans, risk assessments, and environmental management plans.
  • Encouraging observation reporting and representing the company at industry forums.

Additional duties may include responding to PQQs, bids, tenders, and assisting with waste and licensing applications.

Essential Competencies:

  • Qualified in Health and Safety (NEBOSH/NCRQ, BSc, MSc).
  • Proven experience as a Health and Safety Advisor in construction.
  • Holder of CSCS / CSR / Safepass card.
  • Strong knowledge of H&S legislation.
  • Understanding of construction processes.
  • At least 5 years’ H&S experience in construction or related fields.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in water, rail, or highways sectors.
  • Excellent communication, numeracy, and literacy skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel.

Desirable Competencies:

  • NEBOSH Diploma.
  • Experience working directly with site teams.
  • Progress toward or possession of Cert IOSH or similar.
  • Knowledge of management standards (HSG65, Safe-T-Cert).
  • Awareness of quality and environmental management systems.
  • Knowledge of Behavioral Based Safety approaches.
