Job overview

The post holder will work as part of the Trust’s Health, Safety and Security Management team, providing advice and support to the team and to managers and staff across the organisation in order to assist them in fulfilling their statutory duties relating to health, safety and operational management of ligatures in healthcare premises.

Main duties of the job

With a focus on the inpatient ligature risk assessment process and programme, the post holder will be coordinating and u ndertaking site inspections, participating in the audit process, and working with wards and other relevant departments to deliver effective plans for the reduction of risk and environmental improvements.

In addition to this, the post holder will be expected to influence, develop, and participate in any staff training, policy development or any associated business as required within the wider Health and Safety portfolio including line management responsibilities for relevant staff.

The post holder will also support the preparation of information and documentation for meetings, liaising with other professionals/teams and providing update reports and action plans as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Pay Enhancements – 30% additional for Evenings (8pm onwards) and Saturdays and 60% additional for Sundays and Bank holidays.
  • 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays rising to 29 after 5 years and 33 days after 10 years
  • Relevant experience of working within a ligature risk management and/or health and safety role
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent knowledge gained through relevant experience
  • Evidence of professional development
  • Training/qualifications/experience of Health & Safety
  • Experience of carrying out audit/research
Experience
  • Substantial experience in working in a Mental Healthcare setting
  • Experience of working within an inpatient environment
  • Experience of working with all levels of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience of providing line management supervision/clinical supervision
  • Experience of prioritising of own workload
  • Working knowledge of Trust risk management systems and IT systems
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of Risk Management principles including Health & Safety, including patient safety
  • Knowledge of computer systems
Skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage own workload without direct supervision.
  • Use own initiative requesting support as required
  • Ability to receive and communicate complex information effectively, both verbally and in written format
  • Ability to work flexibly as an individual and team member
  • Work in a fast-paced environment using prioritisation skills, and adapting to changes in deadlines and conflicting demands
