Health and Safety Advisor (Fire and Facilities Specialist), Cambridge

This role involves supporting the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) in providing expert health and safety advice, ensuring a safe working environment across various facilities. The position requires working as both a generalist and specialist, leading on fire safety and facilities topics.

Main duties include:

  1. Providing competent health and safety advice to stakeholders.
  2. Developing and implementing safety strategies and policies.
  3. Conducting safety inspections, audits, and investigations.
  4. Leading on fire safety and facilities management, including risk assessments and compliance.
  5. Collaborating with external bodies and internal teams to promote safety standards.

Working relationships:

Report to the Head of Health and Safety and collaborate with the safety team, research staff, and external organizations.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Essential: NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate or equivalent, degree or equivalent experience, experience in safety management systems, accident investigation, and safety training.
  • Desirable: Membership of professional bodies, NEBOSH Level 4 Diploma, experience in research environments, regulatory inspections, and supervising staff.

Knowledge and skills:

  • Understanding of fire safety regulations and building risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of facilities-related safety issues such as legionella, working at height, and laboratory hazards.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
