Job Purpose

We have an exciting entry level opportunity for a Health and Safety Advisor to support our Health and Safety performance within the Bioresources and Fleet teams. We are looking for a new colleague eager to learn, with a passion for health and safety, in particular road safety. As part of this role you will support the embedment of processes and procedures to ensure employees get home safe and well. To identify and escalate critical H&S issues to line management and the relevant H&S Business Partner so they can ensure the right level of support and intervention is allocated at the right levels to help resolve issues.

This role will be expected to travel to a number of our operational locations across the North West to support the Bioresources and Fleet teams, so a driving licence will be required. We offer home working and also the ability to work from our head office in Warrington, when not working onsite. You will need to have the gravitas to get stuck in and comfortable working with colleagues across our operational teams. In return we would love to support you in gaining your NEBOSH certification.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Regular field visits to support the delivery of health, safety and wellbeing policies, procedures, standards and improvement plans

  • Provide advice as required on UU health and safety requirements
  • Completion of H&S incident investigations through to root cause and close out
  • Engagement with field teams to ensure learning from significant H&S incidents are shared including the delivery of engaging health, safety and wellbeing messages at roadshows and team briefs
  • Build an effective working relationship with field teams so that operational dilemmas and implementation challenges are communicated to the H&S Business Partner
  • Provide support as required to you assigned business area and/or into UU wide improvement programs
  • Provide support as required on the development and improvement of the H&S management systems and processes

Technical Skills & Experience

  • An understanding of H&S behavioural theory and practice.
  • NEBOSH Certificate (or desire to work towards) or relevant experience
  • Experience of managing own professional development and delivering agreed targets in line with personal performance plans
  • Good interpersonal skills and experience of effective communication with stakeholders
  • A sound ability of communicating in meetings and in writing.
