Job description
Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Health and Safety Advisor to lead our day-to-day health and safety function across all departments and sites. This is a standalone role within the business, supported by our external health and safety consultants. The successful candidate will act as the first point of contact for all health and safety matters, carry out audits and inspections, prepare documentation, and ensure compliance with legislation. You will work closely with managers and staff across the company to embed a positive safety culture and drive continuous improvements.

Responsibilities
  • Health and Safety Audits & Inspections: carry out site and departmental inspections, ensuring compliance with company and statutory requirements; produce reports with findings and recommendations, following up on actions with managers; support teams in implementing corrective measures and sharing best practices.
  • Health and Safety Advisory Support: act as the in-house point of contact for health and safety queries; provide practical advice and guidance to staff and managers across all projects and divisions; liaise with external health and safety consultants as required, ensuring consistent standards are maintained.
  • RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements): prepare and review RAMS for projects, ensuring they meet legal and company requirements; check subcontractor RAMS and provide feedback or approvals as appropriate.
  • Incident Management: lead on recording and reporting accidents, near misses, and incidents; support investigations to establish root causes and ensure corrective actions are implemented; monitor trends and share lessons learned with staff and managers.
  • Training & Awareness: deliver inductions, toolbox talks, and other health and safety briefings; promote awareness of safe working practices across the workforce; support the identification of training needs and liaise with consultants for specialist training provision.
  • Continuous Improvement: keep up to date with changes in legislation and industry standards; recommend and implement improvements to health and safety systems and procedures; champion a strong safety culture throughout the business.
What We’re Looking For
  • Previous experience in a Health and Safety Advisor role (construction or related industry preferred).
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, regulations, and best practice.
  • Ability to work independently, taking ownership of the day-to-day health and safety function.
  • Confident in carrying out inspections, preparing reports, and liaising with site teams.
  • Good communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage colleagues at all levels.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH General/Construction Certificate, IOSH Membership, or working towards higher qualifications).
