They proactively provide health and safety specialist guidance and support to council staff.
Your new role
The Health and Safety Adviser (People) role is a critical fixed-term position for 12 months, responsible for providing competent and professional health and safety advice and support to Council services to ensure continuous improvement in performance. You will support the Senior Health and Safety Adviser (People) to develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policy, management procedures, systems, and guidance across a range of safety critical and statutory areas, both departmentally and corporately.You will plan and complete detailed health and safety management audits, and develop, implement, deliver, and evaluate training.As an integral part of the team, you will need to communicate effectively with both internal and external parties, such as Trade Unions, national and local occupational health and safety groups, and contractors. This role provides a platform for personal growth and development, as you'll have the opportunity to refine your people management skills and expand your professional horizons in a supportive and collaborative environment.
What you'll need to succeed
They are looking for a proactive health and safety professional to support council services across various locations, including offices, libraries, shelters, and residential care settings. You will need strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to manage multiple projects at once. The ideal candidate will hold a NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and GradIOSH membership, with experience advising on health and safety in the public sector or large multi-site organisations. They should demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a practical approach to occupational health and safety legislation, accident prevention, and compliance.
