Job summary

GBR Recruitment Ltd partnered with a reputable high-quality housing developer seeks an experienced Health & Safety Advisor with extensive new build housing exposure. You will implement and update H&S policy across sites, driving safe processes and a culture of safety in a fast-paced construction environment.

The role requires NEBOSH Construction, NVQ4 in H&S and IOSH membership, with RAMS/SSOW experience across multiple projects.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Health & Safety Management for Construction certification is required.
  • NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in Health & Safety.
  • Member of IOSH (Tech IOSH or higher) required.
  • Experience on new build housing projects with CDM. RAMS management experience.
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations and construction legislation.
  • Ability to lead health & safety improvements across multiple sites.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to train staff.

Responsibilities

  • Be the key person promoting health and safety across sites and develop a positive safety culture.
  • Champion continuous improvement, innovation and best practice.
  • Ensure contractors are aware of policies and implement them in work activities.
  • Undertake RAMS reviews and safe systems feedback for improvements.
  • Build strong relationships with site teams and encourage safe behaviours.
  • Monitor effectiveness via inspections and audits and report findings.
  • Keep up to date with legislation and implement required actions.
  • Manage changes to the health and safety management system and policies.
  • Lead regular health and safety meetings and distribute minutes.
  • Lead incident investigations and implement preventive actions.
  • Report incidents to HSE per RIDDO R requirements where applicable.
  • Coordinate training activities and update the training matrix.
  • Oversee occupational health surveillance and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Handle administration to deliver health & safety services.
  • Provide monthly health and safety update reports to leadership.
  • Liaise with enforcing authorities as needed and communicate findings.
  • Participate in health & safety team activities and events.
  • Undertake additional duties as reasonably requested.
  • Ensure GDPR and data protection compliance.

Job description

GBR Recruitment Ltd are working in partnership with a reputable, high quality focused, new home construction & development business, recruiting for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor with extensive new build housing development exposure, strong CDM experience, plus NEBOSH, IOSH & RAMS experience, to cover New Housing sites across primarily the East Midlands / Midlands (some sites outside of this area).

You will have NEBOSH Health & Safety Management for Construction certification, NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in H&S, be a member of IOSH (Tech IOSH or higher) & come from new build housing.

You will be responsible for updating & implementing changes to the Housing Construction Health & Safety policy across the companies new build sites, working closely with the senior H&S Director plus senior on-site management team / HQ to continually improve / maximise the quality & consistency of the companies new build services, promoting a safe working environment with safe processes at all times.

This role requires you to instigate & implement effective Health & Safety standards & procedures, promoting a health & safety focused culture.

The H&S Role duties:

  • Be the key person, within the businesses for which you are responsible, actively promoting health and safety and developing an effective health and safety culture.
  • Champion continuous improvement, innovation, and best practice
  • Ensure that right through the businesses for which you are working with that everyone, including sub-contractors are aware of the health and safety policies and procedures in place and implement these in their work activities.
  • Undertake the initial and on-going regular review of sub-contractors RAMS and safe systems of work, providing feedback on areas for improvement and reviewing the improvements submitted.
  • Build strong relationships with site teams, influencing and encouraging safe behaviours.
  • Carry out the regular monitoring of the effectiveness of existing health and safety arrangements through inspections and audits and feedback findings to the site team and senior management team within your businesses.
  • Keep up to date with new or amended health and safety legislation, interpreting this information and from this initiating, developing, coaching and guiding the site-based teams and subcontractors in the necessary actions to achieve compliance.
  • Manage and monitor changes, developments and amendments to the health and safety management system, including its policies, procedures and arrangements.
  • Be an integral part of regular health and safety meetings with senior managers and of a safety committee attended by a cross section of those working within the construction-based businesses. Produce and distribute minutes from these meetings.
  • Lead on any incident/accidents which occur in the businesses under your responsibility, investigate them and promptly produce the necessary reports. The focus of such investigations being measures to prevent a reoccurrence.
  • Ensure that, through the Director of Health & Safety, any applicable incidents/accidents/ work related ill health issues are reported to the HSE in-line with the requirements of R.I.D.D.O.R.
  • Ensure that any potential insurance related matters (claims, incidents etc) are promptly communicated with the Director of Health & Safety.
  • Review, monitor and administer the health & safety training for the businesses under your responsibility, booking and co-ordinating the necessary training, including e-learning, and updating the matrix for all completed training.
  • Review, monitor and administer the occupational health surveillance and well‑being initiatives for the businesses under your responsibility.
  • Undertake the necessary administration elements to allow the successful delivery of health and safety services to the businesses under your responsibility.
  • Ensure that a monthly health and safety update report for businesses under your responsibility is provided to the Director of Health & Safety.
  • Ensure that any contacts made to the businesses under your responsibility with enforcing authorities (e.g. H.S.E., Local Authorities etc) are captured and promptly communicated with the Director of Health & Safety.
  • Endeavour to be an active member of the Health & Safety Team, attending team meetings and events, and offering support and assistance to your Health & Safety colleagues
  • Undertake out additional duties appropriate to the role, skills, and level of competence as reasonably requested.
  • Ensure full compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure full compliance with GDPR and company data protection policies when handling customer personal information

Attrinutes:

  • NEBOSH Health & Safety Management for Construction Certificate
  • Tech IOSH or higher qualified is a must
  • A thorough understanding of construction projects (CDM) from pre-start to final completion in House Build, Refurbishments & Demolition projects.
  • A thorough knowledge of the CDM regulations & all associated new build construction legislation.
  • Extensive & proven experience in delivering practical health & safety solutions, with the ability to work on multiple projects at one time.
  • RAMS, SSOW & Accident Reporting experience
  • Knowledge of First Aid & Mental Health First Aid is beneficial
