Job summary

Affinity Water is seeking a hands-on Health & Safety Advisor to promote safe, sustainable, and positive working practices across our Hatfield office and regional sites. The role covers office, facilities, and site visits with travel to Folkestone roughly monthly, supporting our Zero Harm agenda.

Qualifications

  • Experience providing Health & Safety advice in an office environment, including DSE, wellbeing, stress and mental health.
  • Experience carrying out incident investigations, risk assessments and workplace inspections, with the ability to turn findings into practical learning and improvements.
  • Proven hands‑on experience working on live operational and/or construction sites
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice
  • Good technical understanding of construction, utilities, or engineering environments
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage a site-based workload
  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Technical Membership of IOSH

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with front-line teams to identify hazards and challenge unsafe behaviours
  • Work with operational teams to develop and improve safe ways of working, embedding safety at all stages of work
  • Build strong rapport with teams on site and act as a trusted advisor, influencing positive safety culture
  • Provide coaching and guidance to stakeholders on health and safety matters
  • Investigate significant incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions
  • Lead incident reviews with key stakeholders
  • Support the development and review of risk assessments, method statements, and permits
  • Deliver training, awareness briefings, and health & safety initiatives
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of H&S policies, procedures, and practices

Job description

We’re looking for a hands-on Health & Safety Advisor to promote safe, sustainable and positive working practices across our office in Hatfield and operational environments.

Working closely with Customer Experience, front‑line and production teams, you’ll support our Zero Harm ambition through practical advice, workplace and site visits, incident investigations, safety communications and learning and also support our Safety Champion groups and promote wellbeing, including mental health and stress awareness.

This is a varied role, covering everything from office‑based health and safety, facilities and display screen equipment to supporting operational teams and visiting sites across our regions. You’ll be mostly based in Hatfield, with travel across Affinity Water’s regions and to Folkestone approximately once a month, depending on business needs.

What You’ll Do

What We’re Looking For
Essential:
  • Experience providing Health & Safety advice within an office environment, including DSE, workplace wellbeing, stress and mental health.

  • Experience carrying out incident investigations, risk assessments and workplace inspections, with the ability to turn findings into practical learning and improvements.

  • Proven, hands‑on experience working on live operational and/or construction sites

  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice

  • Good technical understanding of construction, utilities, or engineering environments

  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and manage a site‑based workload

  • NEBOSH General Certificate

  • Technical Membership of IOSH

Desirable:
  • NEBOSH Diploma (or working towards)

  • Awareness of COMAH requirements

  • Knowledge of COSHH regulations and safe substance management practice
