Job summary

Affinity Water is recruiting an Asset Planning Engineer to support the Asset Strategy & Capital Delivery Team. You will develop robust investment plans for infrastructure assets, delivering best-value proposals and data-led business cases.

In this role you will manage risks, lead planning through concept stage, and provide technical assurance across the project lifecycle, working with diverse stakeholders to prioritise investments.

Qualifications

  • Degree/equivalent in Civil, Environmental, Water Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in asset management, asset planning, infrastructure or water operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with ability to engage stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate complex technical information into strategic recommendations.
  • Confidence engaging with and challenging stakeholders to reach evidence-based decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Senior Asset Planning Engineer – Infrastructure within Asset Planning.
  • Act as Infrastructure Asset Planner for Growth Planning, Developer Services and Affinity Water Communities.
  • Lead Risk & Value Workshops, bringing stakeholders and technical experts together to agree investment priorities.
  • Act as Infrastructure Asset Planner, managing asset risks and projects through the planning stage.
  • Provide expert technical and asset management advice, supporting strategic recommendations and project development.
  • Analyse asset and network performance to identify risks, trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Review root-cause analysis following asset failures and recommend effective mitigation.
  • Identify and support infrastructure improvements, resilience schemes and efficiency opportunities.
  • Provide technical assurance and support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • UK driving licence

Affinity Water have a fantastic opportunity to become a Asset Planning Engineer within our Asset Strategy & Capital Delivery Team.

The Role:

As an Asset Planning Engineer, you will provide technical support to Asset Strategy and Capital Delivery, developing robust investment plans that meet business needs and deliver benefits.

Asset Planning Engineers develop best-value, sustainable investment proposals for infrastructure assets, including distribution mains, trunk mains, meters and control valves.

What you'll be doing:

You will be managing infrastructure risks with operational and delivery teams, owning projects through concept and planning, and developing data-led business cases that optimise performance, risk and cost. Key responsibilities include:

What you'll need:

  • Experience in asset management, asset planning, infrastructure or water operations.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate complex technical information into clear strategic recommendations.
  • Confidence working with and constructively challenging stakeholders to achieve evidence-based decisions.

Advert Closing Date: 22/9/26

  • Salary £33,000 - £41,300 (salary dependant on skills and experience)
  • Hours: 08:30am - 17:00pm (Mon - Thurs) 08:30am - 16:30pm (Friday)
