Job summary

Breedon Group plc seeks a Health & Safety Advisor for the Hope Cement Works site in Derbyshire, with occasional travel to depots across Great Britain. You will support the Health & Safety Manager in delivering a zero-harm culture through risk assessments, incident investigations, training, and program development.

The role requires extensive H&S advisory experience, strong auditing ability, and knowledge of ISO 45001. Occasional overnight stays and site-wide collaboration are expected.

Qualifications

• Extensive H&S advisory experience required.
• Knowledge of ISO 45001 standards preferred.
• Experience auditing and improving H&S metrics.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional H&S advice across Hope Site and Depots/Terminals.
• Assist in developing management systems and training frameworks.
• Facilitate incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
• Develop and implement health & safety programs and competency frameworks.
• Ensure legal compliance for H&S matters across sites.
• Identify best practices and implement improvement plans.
• Conduct audits and inspections to verify compliance.
• Organise and deliver training as required.
• Collaborate with Breedon Group sites on H&S initiatives.

We are currently seeking a Health & Safety Advisor within our GB Cement division, reporting to the GB Cement business Health & Safety Manager.

Description

We are currently seeking a Health & Safety Advisor within our GB Cement division, reporting to the GB Cement business Health & Safety Manager. This role is based at Hope Cement Works in Derbyshire with periodic travel required to cement depots across GB; some overnight stays may be necessary. The Group places the highest importance on sustained standards of excellence in all aspects of Health, Safety and Environmental management and you will be expected to contribute to the Company's zero harm culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide pertinent professional advice to others across the Hope Site and our Depots and Terminals within a timely manner in order to facilitate informed decision making


• Assist in the review and development of management systems


• Facilitate incident investigations, including identification of immediate and root causes to enable the generation of suitable actions


• Assist with the development and implementation of health & safety programs including training and competency frameworks


• Assist with establishing and maintaining a suitable framework to ensure legal compliance with regards to health & safety matters


• Seek out relevant best practice outside the business and sector to then bring back and deliver suitable implementation plans


• Undertake regular audits and inspections to determine compliance with H&S legislative requirements.


• Organise and facilitate training as required.


• Wider interaction with other businesses within the Breedon Group

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Skills/Knowledge

• Thorough knowledge of relevant H&S legislation


• Competent risk assessor


• Ability to mentor/coach fellow auditors and auditees


• Current knowledge of behaviour-based safety would be desirable


• Understanding of safety culture development


• Excellent oral and written communication skills


• Sound understanding of business management systems including relevant Standards e.g. iso 45001


• Awareness of generally available data & information in relation to such matters as industrial health trends


• Excellent engagement skills


• Good knowledge of core IT systems

Experience

• Extensive relevant Health & Safety advisory experience


• Excellent track record for managing leading and lagging H&S metrics to improve H&S performance


• Suitable level of competency in auditing

Qualifications

• NEBOSH National Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent)


• IOSH membership


• NEBOSH National Diploma would also be advantageous.
