Job description

Health & Safety Advisor – Rail

Location: Derby (DE24 8UX) with Nationwide Travel
Remuneration: Up to £40,000 basic (DOE), Company Van & Fuel Card, Agile Working

Be the reason everyone gets home safe.

At Ganymede, we don’t see safety as a checkbox - we see it as our core purpose. We're trusted to deliver critical infrastructure work across the UK, and we're looking for a Health & Safety Advisor who wants to make a real difference in the lives of the people on our sites.

This isn’t a passive compliance role. You’ll be active on-site, working directly with operatives, subcontractors, and clients - not just observing safety but helping shape the culture around it. You’ll act as a leader, mentor, and trusted voice for safety - driving standards and behaviours that genuinely protect people.

The Role and About You

Based out of our Derby Head Office, you’ll travel nationally across our rail sites supporting teams to ensure a proactive and consistent safety presence. You’ll be a key figure in upholding and promoting our “Safety First, Safety Always” values and helping us deliver on client KPIs.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Conducting site safety inspections, safety tours, and internal office audits
  • Leading accident, incident, and near-miss investigations — interviewing, identifying root causes, and driving actions
  • Preparing and delivering monthly safety briefings, toolbox talks, and workforce inductions
  • Coaching and mentoring Workforce Champions and operatives on behavioural safety and wellbeing
  • Managing safety data and escalating concerns from subcontractor KPIs
  • Encouraging and tracking usage of the Ganymede safety app for close calls and reporting
  • Representing Ganymede at client forums, inspections, and collaborative safety events
  • Promoting the Close Call campaign and turning feedback into action
  • Supporting initiatives focused on mental health, fatigue, substance risk, and competence assurance

What You’ll Need:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (Level 3 minimum)
  • Valid PTS (Personal Track Safety) Card with AC & DCCR
  • A minimum of three years in rail inclusive of Health & Safety experience
  • A confident, solutions-driven approach with strong influencing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage your time, and build relationships across all levels

Why Join Ganymede?

We give our H&S professionals the trust, support, and autonomy they need to make real impact. Here, safety isn’t just a department — it’s how we operate.

  • Up to £40,000 basic salary (DOE)
  • Company van & fuel card for site travel
  • Agile working
  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays
  • 3x life assurance, Green Emissions scheme, Employee Assistance Programme
  • A collaborative safety team and direct access to HSEQ leadership
  • Real opportunity to grow your career within a company trusted by Network Rail and other key infrastructure clients
