Job description

I am thrilled to invite applications for the role of HSW Advisor for the Sizewell C project. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team that will shape the future of clean energy in the UK while ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and wellbeing throughout the construction phase.

As part of the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), you will contribute to the development of Sizewell C, a 3.2-gigawatt nuclear power station that will provide low-carbon electricity to around 6 million homes. This is not just any project - Sizewell C is crucial for the UK’s energy future, and your role will be key in making it a safe and successful reality.

What You'll Be Doing:

As an HSW Advisor, you’ll play an essential role in monitoring and advising on health, safety, and wellbeing from the design phase through to implementation. Your input will support the project in maintaining a Zero Harm culture, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and driving continuous improvement in safety standards.

You will conduct regular site inspections, engage with teams at all levels, and ensure all safety measures are meticulously planned and executed. You’ll also deliver training, provide coaching and mentoring, and be instrumental in embedding a safety-first culture across the project.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct planned project inspections and risk assessments to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Monitor and review unplanned events, helping teams address safety concerns and ensuring thorough investigations are completed.
  • Deliver site inductions and safety training sessions for staff and contractors.
  • Advise on legislative changes and how they impact the project’s operations.
  • Support in the delivery of the Make Safety Personal (MSP) programme and promote safety across the project.
  • Engage in accident and incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are taken and shared across the business.
  • Champion a Zero Harm culture and help foster a positive HSW environment.
  • Help deliver safety audits, risk assessments, and behavioural safety initiatives.
What We’re Looking For:

We need someone with a strong background in health, safety, and wellbeing within construction, with an in-depth understanding of UK health and safety regulations. You should be able to lead by example and influence others to maintain a relentless focus on safety. You’ll also have NEBOSH National Diploma or an equivalent qualification and ideally be a Graduate Member of IOSH (or working towards).

Skills & Experience:
  • Strong understanding of UK Health & Safety regulations and construction industry standards.
  • Competence in accident and incident investigation.
  • Experience in complex construction and civil engineering projects.
  • Ability to influence a positive safety culture at all levels.
  • NEBOSH or equivalent qualification is essential.
  • A construction background, particularly in heavy civils or tunnelling, is highly desirable.
  • Strong IT skills, with proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Why Join Us:

By joining the CWA on the Sizewell C project, you will be part of something truly transformative. This role offers you the chance to contribute to a project that will play a critical role in the UK’s energy landscape for decades to come. Your work will directly influence the safety and wellbeing of everyone on site, ensuring we deliver the project in the safest way possible.
