Job description

Head Vet (Salary up to £70,000 DOE)

As a key member of a surgery's management team, this role is responsible for consistently driving exceptional customer service and clinical care whilst promoting pet wellbeing, delivering preventive services and treating sick and injured pets.

Opportunity:

This role spearheads continuous improvement of the service capability of the surgery and the upskilling of colleagues to become a centre of clinical excellence. In doing so, this role is key to driving turnover and profitability.

If you enjoy working with a close-knit team of like-minded people and thrive in a busy, fun, professional, friendly, and supportive environment, then this could be the opportunity for you.

You will be the Head Vet of a small animal first opinion veterinary practice based in the beautiful Norfolk Broads. The practice is easily accessible with good transport links nearby (including bus and train).

The ethos is clear: to do the best for the animals in our care and to look after the team with respect and kindness. We take pride in doing the job well.

The vet team enjoys a 4-day week (with a 1 in 3 Saturday). This constitutes up to a 40-hour week. The rota is designed to give one 4-day weekend and one 3-day weekend every 6 weeks. Part-time options will also be considered.

Your duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  1. Conduct consultations, investigations, and surgical procedures, practising outstanding first opinion medicine and surgery, with a focus on preventive and diagnostic healthcare.
  2. Conduct clinical audits to develop the vet team and improve surgery performance, maintaining a reflective no-blame culture.
  3. Investigate and resolve clinical adverse incidents and customer complaints, using these as opportunities to reflect and improve processes, standards, and protocols.
  4. Influence and lead the team to change embedded ways of working to improve outcomes.
  5. Lead by example by demonstrating a caring, professional attitude towards customers and patients.
  6. Read customer, patient, and situation cues to anticipate needs and influence clients to follow best-practice advice.
  7. Communicate promptly and effectively with customers regarding progress of investigations, treatment, and follow-up care.
  8. Ensure inpatients receive appropriate clinical care, with effective handovers between colleagues and out-of-hours providers.
  9. Collaborate with the central leadership team to expand and improve services at the surgery.
  10. Be an ambassador and lead the team to adhere to the practice and CVS Group values.
  11. Maximise the clinic's commercial performance by monitoring KPIs such as transaction values and diagnostic percentages, and pursue opportunities for improvement.

Ideally, you will have sound commercial acumen.

Our standard benefits include:
  • 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays (or equivalent), with our Buy/Sell holiday scheme allowing purchase of an additional two weeks.
  • Paid RCVS, VDS, and subscription fees.
  • Generously funded CPD and opportunities for internal and external development courses.
  • Additional day off each year in your first 5 years at CVS.
  • Cycle to work scheme and subsidised gym membership.
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, and adoption pay.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Pension scheme with automatic enrolment.
  • Access to mental health and wellbeing champions.
  • Colleague discounts on pet products and treatments, including free consultations, discounted drugs, and online pharmacy discounts.
  • Access to the company share-save scheme.

CVS is committed to being an inclusive workplace where all colleagues are supported to be themselves, where diversity is celebrated, and everyone can deliver their best. We aim to build a workforce that reflects our diverse communities and client base.
