Standard for Headship

Job description

We are looking for enthusiastic teachers who will be responsible for the leadership, good management, and strategic direction of the school, conducting its affairs for the benefit of pupils and the community it serves. The role includes leading and managing whole school policy, its implementation, and evaluation. The successful candidate will manage and develop the school curriculum, learning, and teaching provision to promote improved educational outcomes.

The post holder must demonstrate a commitment to quality service delivery through continuous improvement for the benefit of the Service and the organization.

Holding the Standard for Headship became a prerequisite for teachers taking up their first permanent headteacher post at Local Authority and grant-aided schools in Scotland from 1 August 2020, under Section 28 of the Education (Scotland) Act 2016.

There are two exemptions: the first applies to any permanent headteacher appointed to a position in a school on or before 1 August 2020; the second allows education authorities or managers of grant-aided schools to appoint a person to a headteacher post on a temporary basis for up to 23 months after 1 August 2020.

Long-list interviews are expected to be held on 02 July 2025.

Please note that this permanent post is part of a job share due to phased retirement, with potential for this position to become full-time in the future.
